Strategic management: Board of Trustees and Directors
The Board of Directors, which is also our Board of Trustees, bears overall responsibility for the strategic direction of the Visana Group. It sets the guidelines, oversees their implementation and ensures sustainable development.
Lorenz Hess (Chair)
Federally certified PR consultant. Hess Advisum GmbH. National Councillor. Various directorships and trusteeships. In office at Visana since 2014. Chair since 2017.
Robert E. Leu (Vice Chair)
Dr. rer. pol., em. professor at the University of Bern. Author of numerous publications on economic and health policy. Expert and assessor. Various directorships and memberships of advisory boards. In office at Visana since 2007. Vice Chair since 2014.
Roland Frey (member)
Federally certified banking specialist. Independent corporate and investment consultant with many years of managerial experience in asset management, banking and insurance. Various directorships and trusteeships, as chair or member. In office at Visana since 2016.
Déborah Carlson‑Burkart (member)
Lawyer, LL.M., certified board member (INSEAD) with many years of experience in law, compliance/risk and governance within regulated, national and international market environments. Of counsel at Eversheds Sutherland. Member of various Boards of Directors and Trustees. In office at Visana since 2016.
Dieter Lützelschwab (member)
Lic. rer. pol., General Manager Switzerland at additiv AG. Many years of managerial experience and expertise in general management, banking and insurance, IT and digitalisation. Graduate of executive programmes at INSEAD and IMD. In office at Visana since 2025.

Responsible for operations: the Executive Board
The Executive Board is responsible for day-to-day business and implements the strategic directives issued by the Board of Directors. It coordinates the various businesses and ensures that Visana, as an all-lines insurer, provides high-quality services.
