Paradigm shift in Swiss healthcare
With this strategic partnership, Visana and Swiss Medical Network are pursuing their vision of transforming Swiss healthcare from an ‘illness system’ into a genuine ‘health system’. From a position of collective strength, the two partners want to proactively tackle the challenges facing Swiss healthcare – especially the ever-rising costs and premiums, and the misguided financial incentives in service provision.
In the medium to long term, multiple integrated care regions are to be created across Switzerland, in which all stakeholders (customers, insurers and basic care providers, as well as downstream care structures such as hospitals, and Spitex home healthcare service providers) are coordinated by a regional integrated healthcare organisation. The focus is on prevention and thus on maintaining the health of customers, as well as on the principles of customer-centred personalised treatment and care in the event of illness.
Partnership at national level as a logical extension of regional cooperation in the Jura Arc
Following on from their regional cooperation within the framework of the integrated care organisation ‘Réseau de l’Arc’, the next logical step for Visana and Swiss Medical Network in their joint strategy for integrated care is nationwide cooperation. “Visana wants to play a pioneering role in integrated care and to develop sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the Swiss healthcare sector,” says Lorenz Hess, Chair of Visana’s Board of Directors. “Together with our partner, Swiss Medical Network, we intend to play a significant role in shaping the future of Swiss healthcare.”
“We are convinced,” says Antoine Hubert, CEO of Swiss Medical Network, “that only close cooperation between insurers and service providers will curb the rise in healthcare costs. The current system is in trouble. We must jointly create the framework conditions for the future by bringing together stakeholders within regional or nationwide healthcare organisations that promote the preservation of public health and the improvement of quality.”
Integrated care in the Jura Arc region takes shape
The integrated care organisation initiated by Visana and Swiss Medical Network in the Jura Arc region is now taking shape. The plan is to offer an alternative insurance model for the Jura Arc region from 1 January 2024. The insurance model has been submitted to the FOPH for review as part of the standard approval process.
The so-called ‘VIVA health plan’ for the Jura Arc region is specifically tailored to the needs of the local population and focuses on maintaining people’s health.
By expanding and improving coordination of care structures in the ‘Réseau de l’Arc’ project, Visana and Swiss Medical Network are making a significant contribution to ensuring that people in the rural Jura Arc region receive high-quality medical care that meets their needs.
