Joint foundation creates synergies
Atupri and Visana are combining their complementary strengths in performance and innovation, but will remain operationally autonomous and continue to act as strong independent brands. With this strengthening of their market position, Atupri and Visana are enabling their customers to benefit from a broader range of products and services, as well as more means of access. The joint foundation will exploit economies of scale and create synergies in investment and procurement. Visana and Atupri will pass on these benefits to their customers, as added value.
New approaches in the healthcare sector
The foundation will commence operations in 2024, following registration in the Commercial Register. The way in which Atupri and Visana are joining forces, as a merger by combination, is unprecedented among insurers. Visana and Atupri are consciously pursuing new approaches in the healthcare sector, so as to systematically prepare themselves today for the challenges of tomorrow.
Partnership-based foundation management
The partnership-based nature of the merger is reflected in the joint foundation’s governing bodies, which comprise equal numbers of representatives from each company. Strategically relevant decisions even require a three-quarters majority. Lorenz Hess will chair the foundation’s Board of Trustees. Dr Sandra Thoma Hauser will serve as Vice Chair. The other members of the Board of Trustees are Déborah Carlson-Burkart, Prof. Bettina Borisch, Roland Frey, Dr Iris Kornacker, Prof. Robert Leu and Daniel Wirz.
Responsibility for the coordination and strategic alignment of the companies lies with the Executive Board, led by Angelo Eggli as CEO, with Christof Zürcher as Deputy CEO and Corporate Centre Director. The other members of the Executive Board are Stephan Wilms as CFO and Dr Caroline Meli as Head of Market Management.
The merger of Atupri and Visana will not result in any job losses.
