The Swiss health insurance industry has today taken a significant step towards creating a single industry-wide association: The health insurers Assura, Atupri, Concordia, CSS, EGK, Groupe Mutuel, Helsana, KPT, ÖKK, Sanitas, SWICA, Sympany and Visana have decided to found a new health insurance association, which will commence operations at the start of 2025. They will end their current membership of the associations santésuisse and curafutura.
Constructive dialogue and political clout
The purpose of the new association is to unite the health insurance industry and provide a balanced and broad basis for the positioning of its interests. This new industry association enables the health insurers to jointly strive for a sustainable, affordable, high-quality and patient-centred healthcare system, and to foster constructive dialogue. By presenting a united front, they are increasing their political clout and the public credibility of the industry, while representing the interests of premium payers in a unified way. This also offers exciting prospects for staff of the two current associations.
The founding members already represent over 90 percent of people covered by basic insurance in Switzerland. Other health insurers are welcome to join the new organisation. This is a clear indication of progress and of a willingness to work together in partnership within the industry.
