The Visana Group confirmed its strong earning power in 2025. With a company profit of CHF 130.6 million (2024: CHF 168.8 million) and capital gains of CHF 129.5 million (2024: CHF 150.9 million), it underpinned its successful operational and financial development.
Its premium volume rose significantly, from CHF 4.13 billion to CHF 4.46 billion. At the same time, its private customer base grew by around 34,600 compared with the previous year, taking it to 922,149 insured persons (2024: 887,500). Growth was particularly striking in the basic insurance segment: Here, the number of insured persons rose from 696,000 to 737,459.
Operational development confirms strength
The underwriting profit was CHF 21.3 million (2024: 24.3 million). Its top-up insurance business (as per IPA/VVG and AIA/UVG) performed particularly well once again, generating a profit of CHF 67.8 million. Visana thus remains one of the leading providers of top-up insurance in Switzerland and consolidated its position among the top 3 in this strategically important segment.
Its business customer base remained solid and reliable in 2025: Here, premiums in force rose to CHF 688.7 mn (+38.8 mn), with 16,330 customers (2024: 16,850).
The combined ratio was 99.5 percent (2024: 99.4 percent), confirming high operational quality. Thanks to consistent cost discipline, administrative costs were successfully stabilised. Provisions for insurance claims rose to CHF 2,624.8 million (2024: 2,575.8 million). Visana comfortably met all regulatory requirements as per HIA/KVG and IPA/VVG, and further bolstered its financial standing.
In compulsory health insurance (CHI/OKP), there was a loss of CHF 46.5 million (2024: -17.4 million). The main cause was cost growth in the healthcare sector, which remains persistently high.
Strategic evolution into an all-lines insurer
“This very strong result confirms our company’s ability to perform, as well as its stability,” says CEO Angelo Eggli. “We are growing in our core business, strengthening our position among the leading providers in the top-up insurance segment, and consistently taking Visana beyond traditional health insurance to evolve into an all-lines insurer.”
Already now, Visana offers all main lines of insurance from a single source. Alongside health and accident insurance, its range also encompasses collective insurance, property insurance (household contents, buildings, motor vehicle, valuables, glass breakage, travel) and legal protection insurance. Visana is systematically and independently expanding its range across multiple lines, while clearly positioning itself as an integrated all-lines insurer for private and business customers alike.
Going beyond its traditional lines of insurance, Visana is strategically enhancing its range to include comprehensive financial services. This expansion is creating an integrated portfolio that brings insurance, pensions and finance together under one roof.
Attractive premiums and high customer satisfaction
The long-term focus of Visana’s financial policy is paying off. In a challenging market environment with ever-rising healthcare costs, Visana is successfully keeping its premiums competitive and stable over the long term. The company’s financial strength thus directly benefits policyholders and provides reliability in an environment marked by uncertainty.
The high quality of service, consistent customer focus and reliability are strongly reflected in customer satisfaction: For the first time in the company’s history, Visana has taken first place in the latest survey by Swiss consumer magazine K-Tipp. This result confirms the trust placed in Visana by policyholders, and highlights the company’s very customer-oriented approach.
