The global geopolitical situation has changed significantly in recent years. This also raises questions for you as an employer, particularly in the context of accident insurance. We recommend that you draw your staff’s attention to the following points:
-
The travel warnings issued by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) must be checked well in advance of travelling.
-
Any employee who travels to a country for which a travel warning is in place, is knowingly exposing themselves to danger.
-
This is particularly relevant if an accident occurs, as the accident insurer has to assess whether benefits may have to be reduced or refused. Given the high costs associated with accidents abroad, this can have enormous financial consequences for those affected (e.g. repatriation).
If in doubt, you or your employees should contact your accident insurer before travelling.
We recommend encouraging employees to use the FDFA travel app Travel Admin. One advantage is that if staff members register their trips in this app, they will receive information directly from FDFA about changes in the security situation or natural disasters, as well as important information on self-help.
