There are over half a million businesses in Switzerland with 20 or fewer employees. They make up around 90 percent of the entire business sector. These SMEs cannot all be lumped together. Hairdressing salons, bakeries, painters and the advertising agency around the corner are just as much part of this group as global market leaders in medical technology. ‘Visana SME smart’ covers this diverse segment.
The right fit for your company
‘Visana SME smart’ is a range of products that are geared towards each business’s sector and allow as much customisation as is legally possible – from maternity insurance as part of collective daily allowance insurance, through to comprehensive top-up insurance that complements compulsory accident insurance under AIA.
One question that often arises is that of what the ideal duration is for an insurance contract. One-year contracts offer companies greater flexibility, but a staff member’s prolonged absence due to illness or accident can lead to a premium rise as early as the following year, which would also make switching to another insurer more difficult. By comparison, a three-year contractual period greatly increases budgetary certainty, which SMEs often class as important in their discussions with us. ‘Visana SME smart’ offers you both options.
Insurance from a single source
For SMEs in particular, it can be easier to have a single insurance partner for all types of personal insurance. Uniform processes make life considerably easier for an SME. The ‘Visana SME smart’ packages can be combined in any way. Collective daily allowance insurance provides the basis. This is later supplemented by accident insurance as per AIA or, if the company is obliged to take out accident insurance with Suva, by top-up insurance.
Tony Panitti has been running a painting and plastering business in Worblaufen, near Bern, for ten years. He has been insured with Visana for just as long.
This year, you’re celebrating your company’s 10th anniversary. What are your plans?
Tony Panitti: Almost all our celebrations are happening online and via brochures. But we hope to be able to celebrate our anniversary with our customers soon, and to introduce our new plasterer and master stucco worker.
Visana has been with you all along, as your insurer. How satisfied are you?
Fortunately, we haven’t had any cases of long-term illness yet. But the cooperation with Visana as our daily allowance insurance provider is great, as is our relationship with the property management team.
You signed up for a one-year daily allowance contract although a three-year term would give you more budgetary certainty. How important is that to you in terms of your insurance premium?
A one-year contract gives us flexibility. As our collaboration with Visana is going so brilliantly, I could certainly envisage a three-year contract.
You have three package solutions to choose from. You can start with a single package or several at once.
Daily allowance insurance package
- smart: The premium is tailored specifically to your business’s line of work.
- smart: The premium guarantee gives you three years of certainty for your budget planning.
- smart: For payrolls of CHF 500,000 or more, we reward you for success with a refund, as a surplus participation payment, if the contract performs well.

- smart: Particularly advantageous when combined with the daily allowance insurance and top-up accident insurance packages.
Top-up accident insurance package
- smart: If the cover provided by statutory accident insurance is not enough for you, you can add to it with this.
