Benefits under Visana’s legal protection insurance
A dispute with a neighbour, a traffic accident or a problem with a landlord can quickly lead to a time-consuming and costly court case, even if you are in the right. This is when Visana can support you with personal legal protection and motor legal protection for traffic-related disputes. In the event of disputes with physicians or providers of social or private insurance, our health legal protection is available free of charge to anyone insured with Visana basic insurance.
Visana legal protection insurance covers consultation fees, lawyers’ fees, court costs, expert assessments and any compensation payments to opposing parties in litigation up to a maximum of CHF 500,000 (outside Europe: CHF 100,000) per insured event. If necessary, you also receive an advance for the payment of criminal bail in order to avoid pre-trial detention.
With personal legal protection you receive legal assistance in the following areas:
- Employment law, tort and damages law, other contract law, criminal law, disputes with neighbours, insurance law, property law, tenancy law, the law on co-ownership and condominium ownership as well as legal advisory protection
With motor legal protection you as the owner, registered keeper or driver of a vehicle (passenger car, motorcycle, scooter, e-bike, bicycle, watercraft etc.) receive legal assistance in relation to:
- Tort and damages law, criminal law, insurance law, withdrawal of licence and taxation as well as vehicle contract law
Health is our most valuable asset. That is why Visana provides free health legal protection cover to all persons with basic insurance. We support you in particular in relation to:
- Disputes with physicians, dentists or hospitals
- Disputes with social and private insurance providers
- Other liability-related legal disputes arising in connection with damage to health
All benefits under health legal protection cover are also included in personal legal protection insurance. This means that insured persons with basic insurance benefit from reduced rates when they take out personal and motor legal protection.

Insurance cover begins on the date indicated in the policy. Waiting periods of between one and three months may be required, depending upon the applicable law.
This means that any legal case, the cause of which occurred during a waiting period regulated under contract, will not be insured.
