Frequently asked questions about contributions to the cost of gym membership, exercise classes and wellness activities
Compulsory basic insurance does not cover the costs of gym memberships, exercise courses or wellness programmes. However, many health insurance funds offer such benefits within voluntary top-up insurance, so as to actively promote health and exercise.
Depending on the insurance product, such top-up insurance contributes up to CHF 350 towards the costs of gym membership, group classes or general health-enhancing activities. If you wish to benefit from Visana’s contributions to such costs, in the form of Wellness Cheques, you need Outpatient, Basic, Basic Flex or Outpatient Managed Care top-up insurance.
If you regularly go to the gym or take courses, or otherwise lead an active lifestyle, top-up insurance pays off, as you benefit from an annual contribution of up to CHF 350 towards the costs. Although there is no separate top-up insurance that can be taken out solely for gym memberships or exercise courses, most health insurance funds offer cost contributions within their insurance products.
If you have taken out Visana’s Outpatient, Basic, Basic Flex or Outpatient Managed Care top-up insurance, you will benefit. Visana contributes towards the costs of gym memberships, other exercise courses and wellness programmes, in the form of Wellness Cheques.
Yes, Visana requires proof of gym membership or of enrolment in other courses or programmes. You can simply upload and submit the invoice or a copy of the contract in the myVisana app.
Once you have submitted the invoice or a copy of the contract for a service provided by one of our partners, we check the documents and issue a refund for the relevant Cheque amount.
