Frequently asked questions about myVisana

myVisana

You will find your insurance number (e.g. 1.123.456.78) on your policy or on your insurance card (applies only to cards issued since 2021). For families, please use the insurance number of the primary insured person, as specified on the policy under the heading ‘Family’.

To log in, we require not only your insurance number and password, but also a code, which you receive in a text message on your mobile phone.

Use the ‘Resend’ button to have us send you a new code. Please note that this invalidates the old code. You will usually receive the code within a few seconds. However, it can take somewhat longer if you are abroad, so give the system about a minute to send you the code.

You can request deletion of your myVisana account at any time in your profile settings. Your insurance documents will be sent to you by post again from then on.

With the eBill payment method, your invoices are sent straight to your online banking, where you can pay them with just a few clicks. To use Visana’s eBill service, you must register for it directly within your online banking and add Visana as an invoice issuer.

The user ID is the insurance number of the primary policyholder for the entire contract. You will find this on your policy or invoices, under ‘Family’. The user ID is the same for all family members under the same contract.

No. With myVisana, one registration per family is sufficient. Each family member then logs in using the same login details (user ID and password). The relevant user is selected after a successful login.

No. When you register for myVisana, you are opting to receive all documents electronically. Each document is uploaded to the portal and you are then notified by email. You can also submit your receipts or queries via the portal.

You only need to register once for myVisana. Once your account is active, you can log in on as many devices as you wish all at the same time. Other family members can also log in on their own devices, using the same login details.

If your details in our system match the details that you provide during registration, you can access the portal immediately after registering. If not, manual authentication will take place via an activation letter.

Insurance card

All holders of compulsory health insurance in Switzerland receive an insurance card. This also applies to individuals who are insured in Switzerland and reside in an EU/EFTA country.

If you have basic health insurance with Visana, the back of your card also serves as your European Health Insurance Card. If you only have top-up insurance (e.g. Outpatient, Complementary, Maxica, Hospital, Hôpital, Basic or Medical Costs), you will also receive an insurance card. However, you will not be able to use it in Europe.

Our insurance card is getting a new look. The new health insurance card is made from recycled PET (R-PET). This helps to conserve valuable resources and also reduces the associated environmental footprint (42% lower CO2 emissions for the manufacture of R-PET cards). It is an important step towards sustainability – and sustainability is a key component of Visana’s corporate strategy. We take responsibility for the environment, society and the economy.

Yes. With the myVisana app, you always have your digital insurance card to hand. You can present the card on your smartphone. Doctors, pharmacies and hospitals can quickly access the data by scanning the barcode. Alternatively, you can scan the service provider’s QR code to display your insurance information right away.

Please note that service providers are not required to accept the digital insurance card.

You can start using your insurance card right away. Once you have received and started using the new card, your previous card will no longer be valid.

Please present all relevant insurance cards when visiting a doctor, pharmacy or hospital, so that the services can be correctly allocated and billed.

Yes. You can use your insurance card and a valid doctor’s prescription to purchase medication at Swiss pharmacies without paying cash. The pharmacy charges Visana directly. You will then only be invoiced for your out-of-pocket expenses (deductible and retention fee).

If you become ill or have an accident in an EU or EFTA country, your health insurance card serves as proof of insurance. You will receive the necessary medical services in accordance with the regulations of the country in question, provided you have basic insurance with Visana.

In many cases (e.g. in emergencies), doctors and hospitals will bill Visana directly, so you don’t have to pay upfront.

If your card is lost or damaged, you can easily order a new insurance card. If you are planning a stay in an EU/EFTA country, we can issue you a temporary replacement certificate if necessary.

The microchip enables doctors, pharmacies and hospitals to access information about your insurance coverage electronically. This simplifies the billing process. The microchip contains the same administrative data as on the card.

The PIN enables you to further protect your personal information. The PIN can be found on the card holder below the insurance card. The PUK enables you to make further attempts after you have entered the wrong PIN five times. Please keep your PUK safe; Visana does not have access to this code.

Yes. You can have the electronic data retrieval option blocked for your top-up insurance plans. To do so, please contact your Visana agency.

Please note that once your card has been blocked, you will as a rule no longer be able to buy medication covered by your top-up insurance without paying upfront at pharmacies.

Due to the large-scale rollout, the expiry dates of the new cards were intentionally staggered. This makes it easier to plan production and dispatch in the long term and to spread the associated expense more evenly.
