Stronger together – an overview of the merger
vivacare AG and Galenos AG merged on 1 January 2026. This merger creates a strong future-oriented insurer that harnesses synergies, streamlines processes and offers policyholders greater stability.

There are various insurance companies under the Visana umbrella. On 1 January 2026, Visana took the simplifying step of merging vivacare AG with Galenos AG.

Simplification of the Visana Group’s structure: Larger health insurance funds with more policyholders per fund have clear advantages – particularly in terms of administration. -
This merger results in a larger policyholder base, which generally helps to make premium development more stable and sustainable. -
Galenos AG assumes all the rights and obligations of vivacare AG.
What changes for policyholders?
As of 1 January 2026, all vivacare AG policyholders are automatically insured with Galenos AG. Your insurance cover, your entitlements and the benefits we provide will not change and you do not need to take any action. The top-up insurance offered by Visana Versicherungen AG is not affected by this merger and continues as before.

Frequently asked questions about the merger of vivacare and Galenos
You can terminate your basic insurance and/or daily allowance insurance (HIA/KVG). Outstanding claims with vivacare AG will be transferred to Galenos AG. Debt enforcement proceedings and unpaid debt certificates will also be transferred.
The merger will help stabilise premium growth in the long term and reduce administrative costs.
The merger only affects basic and daily allowance insurance (HIA/KVG). Top-up insurance products provided by Visana Versicherungen AG are not affected and will continue unchanged, including all current benefits.
Galenos was founded in 1908 by members of STA, the Swiss Technical Association (now Swiss Engineering). Galenos was opened up to everyone in 1995. It has been part of the Visana Group since 1 October 2018.
The merger will not affect benefits coverage. Your current cover will continue unchanged.
The merger will not affect your right to a premium reduction. The decision will continue to depend on your canton of residence, the entitlement requirements and your personal situation. We recommend that you notify your canton of your change of insurer, so that payment of the reduction is not disrupted.
Yes. Your existing cover will be transferred to Galenos, but will remain unchanged.
