Discounts
A telemedicine model like Tel Care saves you money on your insurance premium. Here are some of the ways you could save:
If you choose to pay your premium every six months, you will get a discount of 1%. This rises to 2% if you pay annually.
By always contacting Medi24 or using the Well app first, you are actively helping to reduce health costs and avoid duplication during treatment. In return, Visana offers you a model-based discount on your basic insurance premium.
If you work for the same employer for more than eight hours a week, you are insured against non-occupational as well as occupational accidents. This means you can exclude accidents from your basic insurance.
Basic insurance offers selectable deductibles in addition to the standard annual deductible of CHF 300. People aged 19 and over who are insured with Visana can choose a deductible of CHF 500, CHF 1,000, CHF 1,500, CHF 2,000 or CHF 2,500. The higher the deductible chosen, the greater the discount. By choosing the right insurance model and deductible for their needs, policyholders can calculate their premium in such a way that they can manage their annual total cost contribution risk.

How the Tel Care telemedicine model works
-
Contact the Medi24 medical advice centre first if you have health issues or before you go to the doctor.
-
A Medi24 specialist will advise you on your treatment and refer you to a doctor or hospital if necessary.
-
You must consult Medi24 if the attending physician refers you for further treatment. This also applies if you are admitted to hospital or a nursing home.
-
In an emergency, go straight to an emergency doctor or hospital. Notify Medi24 after your treatment.
-
You obtain medicines that you take permanently or regularly from Visana’s partner pharmacies.
Important: Medi24’s instructions are binding and must be followed.

Exceptions and obligations
Doctors’ appointments and health problems
You must always contact Medi24 – by phone or using the Well app – if you have health issues and particularly before you make any appointment for treatment with a doctor, chiropractor or hospital.
You must consult Medi24 if the attending physician refers you for further treatment. This also applies if you are admitted to hospital or a nursing home.
You must follow the advisor’s instructions. The treatment path provided by Medi24 is compulsory and you are obliged to follow it. If you want greater freedom when it comes to your treatment and choice of doctor, we recommend our Med Call telemedicine model.
Purchasing medication
Medicines that are not dispensed directly by the treating physician must be obtained from one of Visana’s partner pharmacies (Zur Rose, MediService).
You can go straight to the doctor without contacting Medi24 in the following situations:
- maternity
- gynaecological check-ups and treatment
- outpatient eye examinations and optical aids
- dental treatment
- emergencies
In an emergency, you must inform Medi24 by phone or using the Well app at the next possible opportunity.
Tel Care gives you an affordable insurance model with lots of advantages. For example, you have access to a medical advisor at any time, and there are no waiting times, consultation costs and duplications. We can only provide these advantages if you comply with the obligations set out above.
The first time you fail to contact Medi24 before making an appointment and go straight to a specialist, for example, we will send you a written reminder of your obligations. The second and third times, we reserve the right to reduce the benefits we pay by 50% or 100% respectively. The fourth time, we will transfer you from Tel Care to ordinary basic insurance.
